Stretch mark removal: Treatments

So you have stretch marks? They can really make you feel insecure but good news is, you’re literally not the only one who has them! So what are stretch marks, how do you get them and how do you get rid of them?

Stretch marks are a redened indented type of scar that develops when your skin stretches or shrinks rapidly. Since this is an abrupt rapid change in the skin it causes the skins collagen and elastin to rupture, so when the skin heals it leaves these scars behind. Some can be very light colored and small and some can be big and red/purple. There are many factors that can cause stretch marks and most of the times can not be prevented. Some causes of stretch marks could be:

  • Pregnancy, growth spurts in puberty, rapid weight loss or gain, weight training, some medications, some medical conditions

Applying moisturizers, oils and vitamin e can help with alleviating the itching of the stretch marks, but there is no way to prevent them or 100% get rid of them.

In my experience with stretch marks myself, I have made these 2 a staple for me and my clients to help make stretch marks less to almost completely unnoticable and that is the use of Retin-a/tretinoin and a series of skinpen microneedling treatments. Microneedling is going to help rebuild that collagen and elastin that was damaged, while tretinoin/retin a can help lighten the area by replacing old skin with newer skin. There is no guarantee of stretch marks going away since it is damaged skin but treatments can help make them less noticable!
