PCOS Awareness 5k Run/Walk Rescheduled for Oct. 12

PCOS-AwarenessBoxforWeb The Bayou City Step Challenge 5k to raise awareness for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome has been rescheduled for Oct. 12.

After Houston experienced heavy rains in the week leading up to the event in late September, organizers decided to reschedule the event after observing water levels at the course. The event will begin at 7 a.m. on Oct. 12 at the Houston Downtown Aquarium.

The fun run and walk will be rescheduled once any possible damage has been repaired and new dates are vetted. The new dates will be announced via e-mail announcement and social media. Like and follow Amerejuve and The PCOS Foundation on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome affects an estimated 10 percent of women. Common symptoms include multiple follicles, or cysts, on the ovaries, hormonal imbalances, and a varied list of other effects such as weight gain, excess hair growth, hair loss, skin conditions, and others. PCOS is also the leading cause of infertility in women, and it has been linked to increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and diabetes. Many women who have PCOS are not diagnosed, so one of the goals of the event is to raise awareness among women and in the general medical community.

A woman who may have PCOS should see a doctor who specializes in the condition.

The Bayou City Step Challenge 5k is organized by The PCOS Foundation, and Amerejuve MedSpa and Cosmetic Surgery is one of the sponsors. To learn more, visit www.pcosfoundation.org. Register with the code AMJ2014 and receive 500 Amerejuve Reward Points.
