What actual side effects does Laser Hair Removal have?!

Laser Hair Removal causes  Perifollicular Edema , an irritation that looks like tiny bumps around the treated area. Some common yet temporary side effects of Laser Hair Removal include; itching, redness, irritation, swelling around the hair follicle(s), tingling or numbness.

Rare, but not unlikely, side effects could consist of; bruising of the treated area, hyper/hypo-pigmentation, or a change in the pigment color of the skin.

If you’re on any antibiotics consult with your technician before any treatments can be done. Majority of antibiotics are a contraindication for Laser Hair Removal. The skin becomes more sensitive towards light exposure causing burns, blisters, and permanent hypo/hyper-pigmentation.

Lastly, the thing a lot of people enjoy doing in the summer; TANNING. All tanning methods, (creams, beds, lotions, sun) should be gone two weeks before and after treatments. The chemicals and/or heat being trapped into the skin before laser hair removal could cause blisters, burns, and hyper/hypo-pigmentation as well. Tanning increases the melanin in the skin, the laser is attracted to melanin, so if the skin has increased melanin it’s difficult for the laser to distinguish between hair and skin.
