CoolSculpting has been cleared to treat thigh fat with the entire suite of Zeltiq Aesthetics applicators by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
This clearance means the FDA recognizes CoolSculpting as effective for treating the entire thigh area, in addition to the previous clearance of CoolSculpting for the abdomen and flanks. Medical providers have been able to treat the thighs with CoolSculpting, but the FDA now recognizes its efficacy, and CoolSculpting maker Zeltiq can now market CoolSculpting specifically for treatment of the thighs.
CoolSculpting is particularly popular for treating stubborn fat that resists diet and exercise on the stomach, flanks, and thighs. CoolSculpting uses cold to destroy fat cells while leaving surrounding tissue untouched, and over a period of weeks the body naturally disposes of the unwanted fat cells. This type of body contouring creates long-lasting results, as the fat cells are targeted and completely removed from the body. Healthy diet and exercise help make the results last even longer.
In a release, Zeltiq reported 86 percent of patients reported a visible reduction of outer thigh fat after 16 weeks and said they were satisfied with their results.
