The benefits of hyaluronic acid

Whenever we hear the word “acid”, most of us assume that it’s harmful. However, when it comes to hyaluronic acid, this assumption is quite wrong. HA is highly recommended by dermatologist & physicians to reduce multiple signs of aging, from your skin texture to joint pain.

What is hyaluronic acid?

HA is a lubricant substance produced naturally by the body and found in the skin, tissue, joints and eye sockets. It helps in retaining collagen by increasing moisture. HA can be found in serums, supplements and injections. As we age, our levels of hyaluronic acid fall by as much as 50%. HA is also partially responsible for the resilience of cartilage and its ability to resist compression. As one of the chief components of the extra-cellular matrix, Hyaluronan is an important component of articular cartridge where it is present as a coating around each cell.

HA promotes healthy joints.

HA has the natural ability to alleviate achy joints. Hylauronic acid exists naturally in joints, especially concentrated in your knees, hips & other moving joints. It is a major component of both cartilage and the synovial fluid that bathes these joints, binding to water to create a thick, gelatinous substance that lubricates and protects the cartilage. In joints afflicted by arthritis, hyaluronic acid levels are extremely low, causing the synovial fluid to become less viscous and the cartilage less cushiony.
